When your dog passes the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, it indicates to others that your canine companion can now be considered a respected member of his or her community and shows that your dog can behave well in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. We sometimes offer a class that is specifically geared towards this test, but you also can have your dog tested after completing an Intermediate Obedience Class. This test and/or class is for all ages and for all dogs--purebred or mixed breeds. Your dog must complete and pass the ten (10) American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and/or Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA) requirements. Once your dog passes these tests, you will receive a certificate and/or title from the American Kennel Club. The CGC and/or CGCA is now a recognized optional title for your dog. Click here for more info: Canine Good Citizen.
There is an additional fee to be paid to the AKC to obtain the CGC certificate and title.
Prerequisites: completion of a basic obedience class, a good recall, and no aggressive tendencies.
These 8-week classes are $120 for Non-Members (NM) and $60 for Members (M).
Class is Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at various off-campus locations (first class meets at the IRDTC facility). Instructor: Lydia Mancini [CLASS CODES: CGC101A-NM and CGC101A-M]
This class not only prepares you and your dog to take the Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA) test; it also helps you and your dog acquire skills necessary to becoming a Therapy Dog Team. Therapy Dog Teams go to nursing homes, schools, hospitals, workplaces, and just about any location where the presence of a dog can bring comfort or joy to the people present. Through this class, you will acquire skills that can help as you prepare to be tested through one of the several Therapy Dog organizations that certify dog and handler teams.
There is an additional fee to be paid to the AKC to obtain the CGCA certificate and title.
Pre-requisite for the class is having passed the basic CGC test. Registrants must provide a copy of their CGC certificates when registering for this class.

Class is Saturday, 12:45-1:45 p.m., at various off-campus locations (first class meets at the IRDTC facility). Instructor: Lydia Mancini [CLASS CODES: CGC201A-NM and CGC201A-M]
Dogs should be 6 months, or older, and have completed beginning obedience.
The AKC includes a temperament description with every breed standard, but we all know each individual dog will ultimately develop a unique temperament, or personality. That development begins at birth, and eventually is molded by the owner through training and socialization. This class, AKC Temperament, is based on the newly revised AKC Temperament Test (ATT title). The class will incorporate situations and objects that mimic real world situations and obstacles that fall under six categories: social, auditory, visual, tactile, proprioceptive (motion, position), and unexpected stimulus. These socialization skills are easily transferable, and relevant to other canine pursuits like Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog certification.
For more information about the AKC Temperament Test, click here: ATT.
NOTE: If you choose to have your dog temperament tested, there is an additional fee to be paid to the AKC to obtain the ATT certificate and title.
