GENERAL INFORMATION
Teacup Agility (Full Courses)
This class is for small dogs (17" at the shoulder or under) and follows guidelines put forth by the Teacup Dogs Agility Association (TDAA). A full course is set up in the ring each week, and dog and handler teams take turns running the course. This sport offers the same challenges that regular agility has for larger breeds, but with scaled down equipment for the little guys. IRDTC has the specialized, small-scale equipment used for this sport, with thick rubberized matting. Best of all, the smaller equipment allows for classes to be held inside, in our air conditioning/heated building! Dogs taking this class should already have some basic obedience skills, especially a good recall. (Pre-requisite: a basic obedience class or personal evaluation by the instructor.)
Beginner Skills for Teacup Agility
This class is for those dog and handler teams who are starting out in Teacup Agility and need to acquire some basic skills in the sport. Dogs taking this class should already have some basic obedience skills, especially a good recall. (Pre-requisite: a basic obedience class or personal evaluation by the instructor.)
Agility Foundations 1
This course is designed for dogs and/or handlers with no previous agility experience. This course will introduce jumps and tunnels and will focus on basic skills for both dog and handler (e.g., targets, turns, platforms, cone work; jump chutes; introduction to contact obstacles and weave poles). Dogs should have completed a basic obedience course and be reasonably steady off-lead . Maximum enrollment is 6 dog/handler teams. Dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome. If your dog is "reactive" to either people or other dogs, please contact the instructor to discuss your situation. If your dog is under 1 year of age, jumping will be at minimal height no matter the breed/size. "Homework" is mandatory. Dogs will be expected to be in their crates when not working in the ring.
Agility Foundations 2
This class builds on the skills included in Agility Foundations 1 which is a pre-requisite for registering for this course. Handlers will progress to full-sized equipment at competition heights as well as short course sequences and basic handling moves. There will also be an emphasis on teaching the dog to independently complete 12 weave poles. Dogs should be well-controlled off-lead (reliable recall). Classes will be held both indoors and outdoors depending on the weather. Registration priority will be given to students who have completed Agility Foundations 1. Potential students who have not completed this pre-requisite course may contact the instructor to discuss their situation and where an assessment of readiness may be requested. Dogs are expected to be in their crates when not working in the ring. "Homework" is mandatory. Enrollment is limited to 5 dog/handler teams.
