Rally is a sport combining traditional obedience with handler skills in a slightly less formal environment. Dog and handler teams navigate a constantly changing course of numbered signs with the degree of overall difficulty increasing through five different levels: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Excellent, and Masters. Rally goals include developing teamwork, enthusiasm for learning, and the fundamentals of traditional obedience exercises.
The IRDTC classes focus on ensuring both the handler and the dog are having fun while gaining confidence in each other and developing skills as a team. The key elements are ring etiquette, walking a course, understanding the exercises, appropriate and targeted rewards, raising performance expectations, and training for success.
Prerequisite: Dog and handler have either completed the Beginning Obedience Class OR achieved the first leg of a Beginner Novice Title.
These 6-week classes are $90 for Non-Members (NM) and $45 for Members (M).
This class is intended primarily for handlers and dogs that have little or no experience with AKC Rally but want to learn about this sport. However, more experienced Rally handlers with "green" dogs might also find this class helpful. The class will emphasize learning and practicing the skills progressions from Rally Novice through Rally Master for heeling, sits, downs, stands, pivots and other turns, back-ups, recalls, spins, and fronts and finishes. Rally signs will be used, NOT as a "course," but rather to inform the learning experience for dogs and handlers. There is NO pre-requisite for this course, but dogs must be socialized (non-reactive) and be able to work on-lead in a group setting. Off-lead work will be minimal. All dogs over 6 months of age are welcome. Limited to 6 participants/dogs. This 6-week class is $90 for Non-Members (NM) and $45 for Members (M). Class registration MUST be completed ONLINE.
