GENERAL INFORMATION
This class addresses critical periods of behavior, basic manners, socialization, puppy handling, confidence and trust building, bite inhibition, housebreaking, behavior issues, grooming, nutrition, and tricks. Weekly handouts are provided covering various important topics.

S.T.A.R. Puppy is based on the American Kennel Club's S.T.A.R. Puppy program. This program is designed to teach the puppy and owner all about the four points of the star:

• Socialization –teaches you both how to meet people and dogs in everyday life
• Training- learn the basics of dog training and have your dog enjoy learning
• Activity- teaches owners about the exercise needs of your dog as each puppy/breed is different
• Responsibility- owners will learn all about what their role is in the relationship and how to prepare their puppy to be a Canine Good Citizen.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND?
Puppies MUST be on a vaccination protocol appropriate for their age in order to take part in this class; owners need to provide dated documentation of this from their veterinarian.


WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
1. Lots of small, soft food treats as rewards.
2. Collar - please no pinch, prong, choke, or shock collars.
3. Leash - 4-6 foot nylon or leather. Please NO retractable (Flexi) leashes.
4. All vaccination records. Without these, you will not be allowed in the class.
5. The first class session is orientation and is just for humans (without their puppies).
6. It helps to have pants with pockets or bring something that attaches to your waist to hold your dog’s treats. 


WHAT NOT TO BRING?
No heels!  The floors in our training rings are made of a soft material that is safe for dogs.  Shoes with heels could damage the flooring.
