ADVANCED OBEDIENCE CLASSES

GENERAL INFORMATION

ADVANCED BEGINNER
Once a dog and handler team is proficient at the Beginning Obedience level, they may move into this class, also an 8-week class, which includes lecture, Q&A, practice, and homework. This is a good class for those who are interested in taking the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test or in achieving advanced obedience titles. Dogs entering this class should already be able to walk on a loose leash, stay when told, and come when called. To graduate from this class, the dog must be able to heel with an About Turn, a Fast, and a Slow (without having to reinforce); do a Sit, Stand, and Down Stay off leash; and do a Recall with 2nd Degree Distractions. Lecture portions will concentrate on behavior issues, leadership skills, and signals your dog presents and how to read and react to them.

PREP FOR BEGINNER NOVICE AND NOVICE COMPETITION
This class is for those who are interested in competing in Beginner Novice and Novice as well as those who are ready to show. The  class will consist of refining skills for all the Beginner Novice and  Novice exercises, run-throughs, and review of AKC rules & regulations.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Advanced Beginner or instructor approval.

INTRODUCTION TO OPEN
This class will be for handlers and their dogs who are interested in further obedience training.  The exercises will consist of beginning Graduate Novice and Open: off lead heeling, drop on recall, dumbbell  retrieving, broad jump and command discrimination.  No title is necessary but completion of a Novice class is recommended.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND?
1. Download and print the IRDTC Aggressive Dog Policy and Waiver linked below. Please sign this form and bring it with you the first day of class. (If you don't have access to a printer, we will have blank forms available at the training facility.)
2. Make a copy of your dog's shot records to bring with you the first day of class.
3. Complete the online registration. You can either pay online using a credit card or Paypal account, or you can bring cash or a check the first day of class.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
1. Lots of small, soft food treats as rewards.
2. Crate - All dogs are required to be crated when not in the ring.
3. All vaccination records. Without these, you will not be allowed in the class.
4. It helps to have pants with pockets or bring something that attaches to your waist to hold your dog’s treats.

WHAT NOT TO BRING?
No heels!  The floors in our training rings are made of a soft material that is safe for dogs.  Shoes with heels could damage the flooring.
